Beyond that… my own judgments on him are so coloured by history and other associations, I would be more interested in seeing what judgments you reach on your own.

I'd never given such an assignment. I only meant… I do not wish to allocate guilt by association, or saddle old history onto new parties. I'm not convinced he'll see this place as an opportunity for a clean slate… but I will attempt to give him one nonetheless.
In other words… you don't have to worry about what I think, if you talk with him. I would probably have more to learn from new eyes.
