That means a lot to me. I hope… [small laugh] I hope I know even slightly what I'm talking about.

But it seems to me… that Severus… holds people up to what he thinks they should be, rather than what they are. If he's been sacrificing at the altar to an image of you his whole life… anything you do that isn't falling in love with him in return, he won't accept. Perhaps all you can do right now… is leave him be? And—if you so choose—stand at the ready to be his friend when that is something he'll receive from you…

If he ever does. Goodness knows he's resisting that from me. And he has no higher expectations of me whatever.

But I believe this place may change things, somewhat. Bellatrix Lestrange, in her old mind, was incapable of seeing that anything might be different here than on Earth. Severus, I believe, perhaps in spite of himself, is capable. And is already beginning to see that. In number of people interacted with alone. So one option for us is to wait out this transformation, and see how he may eventually approach us, if at all. Here we are bound more tightly than we were on Earth, by the very thing that once kept us apart: our shared history.

I consider a friend's confidence to be a gift to me, far more than a favour to them. But as I'm sure I'll be calling on you for advice anyway, I suppose it's moot. [He's smiling.]

Have you met Harry's best friend Hermione yet? She's just arrived. [Having been here before but forgotten… that's irrelevant for the moment.] We should introduce you. I think she'd love to talk with you, about Harry and everything else. She's staying with Tonks and me.
